I became a math teacher because I was once the kind of middle school student who felt overwhelmed by numbers. Now I get to help students feel capable and confident instead of intimidated. I hold Georgia certifications in middle grades mathematics, special education, ELA, social studies, and elementary education. I have been teaching middle school math for several years, focusing on conceptual understanding, fluency, and problem-solving. I currently teach 8th grade, where I work daily with pre-algebra content such as linear functions, slope-intercept form, systems of equations, proportional relationships, and introductory algebraic reasoning. I also coach the Academic Team and run a Spanish Language Club, which has strengthened my ability to mentor students beyond the traditional classroom setting.
Most of my instructional experience has been in Title I public schools serving diverse learners, including students with learning differences, English language learners, and advanced students seeking challenge. I regularly tutor students one-on-one in addition to whole-class instruction, helping them build confidence through guided questioning, visual modeling, and real-world application rather than rote memorization. I believe deeply in meeting students where they are, and I adjust my approach depending on whether a learner needs concrete manipulatives, structured step-by-step support, or enrichment through challenge problems.
My strongest tutoring areas are pre-algebra foundations, especially slope, graphing, systems of equations, and linear relationships I am comfortable supporting any K–8 math content and specialize in helping students strengthen factual fluency and number sense. In fact, I am currently pursuing my Ed.D. and conducting research on mathematical fluency and how it affects student confidence and engagement. My goal is always to create an environment where mistakes are normal, thinking is encouraged, and math becomes something students feel proud of rather than afraid of.
