I earned my Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia, and for over twenty years I've gotten to work with kids just like yours: in classrooms, in homeschool settings, and in small groups. In the public-school setting, I have taught 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades. In addition, I taught my 4 kids at home through middle school. Here's what I've learned in all my years of teaching: when a kid is struggling with something, it's almost never because they can't do it. It usually just means nobody has explained it in the way that makes sense to them...yet! So instead of repeating the same explanation over and over, I like to take time to figure out exactly where things get confusing and try a new way in. Sometimes that means slowing down, backing up, turning it into a game, or finding the right example that makes it finally click.
What I bring to tutoring is a lot of patience, real curiosity about how each kid's brain works best, and a genuine love of watching that "aha!" moment happen. I never want a student to feel embarrassed for not getting something right away. That's what I'm here for! My goal for every single session is for your child to leave feeling a little more confident than when we started.
