After receiving my Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics with a minor in Physics, I joined a major tech company, where I used math in performing my job responsibilities as a Systems Engineer.

As my career progressed, I taught data communications concepts to customers. Later, I managed the curriculum content and education delivery of a segment of my company's sales and computer systems new hires training.
As a manager, I coached and developed my teams to meet our business objectives, again demonstrating the capability to develop and transfer skills.

I have a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I worked in business as a Financial Controller for 22 years in which I used math daily to perform my duties. For the last three years I have successfully tutored math for students up to Senior High where Algebra 2 is generally studied. My tutoring experience has shown me that the root causes of the difficulties that Algebra 2 students have with the subject are skill gaps concerning topics that were not fully mastered in Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. After assessing these skill gaps, I develop lesson plans tailored to address the past gaps while concurrently assisting with the more advanced topics.

In working with students who are studying for the GED certificate, I will assess their current skill level and tailor lesson plans to address their requirements.

All of the three graduated and were accepted in universities with academic honors and scholarships.

I have tutored students in Junior and Senior High School for the last three years. My tutoring experience has shown me the criticality of students getting a sound math foundation at the pre-algebra level in order for them to do well in more advanced math topics. Because of this critical need, I focus my lesson plans on providing the math basics that the current math curriculum in many schools have eliminated.

Mr. James McWilliams is a knowledgeable, caring, patient, professional and dedicated Math tutor. Finding him on wyzant was an unexpected blessing. I have never met an online Math tutor that was interested in discussing ways to help our son in Math.
