I am a lifelong learner; therefore, it is my belief that all people can learn and should be afforded the opportunity to learn. For this to happen, lessons must be structured to allow success. Teachers should pre-assess their students to determine learning styles, areas of strengths, areas that need further development, and individual interests. Teaching strategies and experiences should incorporate a variety of hands-on creative activities that are student-focused, not teacher-directed, and individualized to meet the needs of every student. Assessment should be authentic and reflective of the skills being taught. Textbooks and worksheets that require little thinking and student involvement will not prepare students to meet the challenges of their future.
I have adhered to this approach with any learner, regardless of the age or ability of the students. My lessons and methods have always been structured to maximize each learner’s success, not a rote method for all. While keeping the requirements within curriculum guidelines, I develop activities and materials that meet the needs of each student individually.
I am a third-generation teacher, and I hold myself to a very high standard. I welcome any feedback.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success! I am a lifelong learner; therefore, it is my belief that all people can learn and should be afforded the opportunity to learn. I have taught Bible classes at all levels of learning, from elementary to adult learners. I have completed various Bible Studies, both online and with pastors. I am currently completing my internship as a Biblical Counselor because I have already completed the coursework for the program through the AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors).
Study Skills are strategies that, when applied to learning, are critical to success in school and useful for learning throughout life. My philosophy of teaching revolves around this statement:"How can you teach someone if you do not know how they learn?" Subsequently, I assembled a set of learning style profiles that I have used with both elementary and college-age students. Included is a combination of questionnaires to determine the dominant learning preferences based on Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences and Neil D. Fleming's VARK. After determining how students best learn, I am able to provide them with strategies that will improve their academic experiences.
