I am a Canadian Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) with a Bachelor of Commerce in Financial Management from the University of South Africa and more than 20 years of professional accounting and finance experience. My career began in public accounting, including experience with KPMG, Collins Barrow, MNP, and BDO, and I later progressed into senior corporate accounting roles including Corporate Controller and Director of Accounting. My experience has included financial and managerial accounting, financial statement preparation and analysis, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end and year-end close, internal controls, audit, budgeting, cash management, Excel, QuickBooks, and Canadian tax accounting.
Although I am new to formal tutoring, much of my professional career has involved explaining accounting concepts, reviewing the work of accounting staff, helping team members resolve accounting issues, and translating complex financial information into practical terms for colleagues and business leaders. As a tutor, I bring that same approach to college students and adult learners. I focus on helping students understand why an accounting concept works rather than simply memorizing a rule or formula.
My tutoring style is patient, practical, and conversational. I like to work through problems step by step, identify exactly where a student is getting stuck, and use real-world examples to make concepts easier to understand. I can assist with financial accounting, managerial accounting, journal entries, adjusting entries, account reconciliations, financial statements, Excel, QuickBooks, and Canadian tax accounting. My goal is for students to leave each session with greater confidence and the ability to solve similar problems independently.
