Hi, I’m Riley! I am currently a senior at the University of Georgia, majoring in psychology. My teaching experience includes a summer of elementary school biology at a camp that specializes in environmental education. While there, I taught small groups of 10-12 kids in a classroom setting. I used real-life (and live!) examples to enhance my lessons, including snakes and tortoises, but my favorite part of the teaching was what happened outside the classroom: kids coming up to me with questions...
Hi, I’m Riley! I am currently a senior at the University of Georgia, majoring in psychology. My teaching experience includes a summer of elementary school biology at a camp that specializes in environmental education. While there, I taught small groups of 10-12 kids in a classroom setting. I used real-life (and live!) examples to enhance my lessons, including snakes and tortoises, but my favorite part of the teaching was what happened outside the classroom: kids coming up to me with questions I never considered while we played games or pointing out examples of the things they learned in class while we hiked.
I loved my time teaching biology, but English has my heart. I am constantly exploring the English language to find new vocabulary and syntax to improve my writing and speech, and I believe everyone else should as well. Comprehending and communicating ideas well are invaluable skills. To teach these, I explain grammar concepts and reinforce them with examples that the student and I come up with and work through during each lesson. I also do the same to improve reading comprehension by using reading material that involves the student’s interests. This keeps the lessons engaging and the mood positive, which improves memory. I teach English to students of all ages and skill levels. An equally useful life skill is knowing how and why people think; this is why I teach psychology. I teach high school, college, and adult learners about a range of psychology fields including cognitive, social, developmental, and clinical.
I encourage students and parents to contact me with questions about my tutoring and suggestions for improvement. Feel free to contact me at any time, and I will get back to you as soon as possible!
