Nice to meet you! My name is Jas, and I am currently a third-year Civil/Structural Engineering student. My academic background has given me a strong foundation in mathematics, particularly algebra and precalculus, and I enjoy helping students build confidence in these subjects.
I have several years of tutoring experience, primarily through Kumon, where I worked with elementary and middle school students in math. This experience taught me how to break complex ideas down into manageable steps and adapt explanations to different learning styles. I am comfortable working with students through early high school math and plan to expand into higher-level subjects as I continue my studies.
My preferred tutoring method is learning by doing. I often ask students to bring a problem from their homework so we can walk through it together step by step. Rather than simply giving answers, I focus on explaining the underlying concepts so students develop a real understanding of the material. I typically share my screen while working through problems so students can clearly follow the thought process behind each step.
I am known for being calm, patient, and encouraging during sessions. My goal is to create a comfortable environment where students feel confident asking questions and working through mistakes. I am also flexible in my approach and happy to adjust my teaching style to match what works best for each student.
While the student is my primary focus during sessions, I also believe communication with parents is important, especially for younger learners. I provide brief session summaries, suggestions for practice between meetings, and additional resources when helpful so families can stay informed about their student’s progress.
I look forward to working with you!
