During my 27-year tenure in the high school, I taught biology, chemistry, Accelerated Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Human Genetics. During my 27-year tenure in the high school, I taught biology, chemistry, Accelerated Chemistry, AP Chemistry, and Human Genetics. I also served as Science Department Chair for 10 years, overseeing the curriculum, assessments, and faculty evaluations/support.
I earned a B.S. in Biology from Haverford College (Haverford, PA) in 1990. I then completed a year of graduate work towards a Ph.D. in biology at M.I.T. before deciding on a career in teaching. I served three years in the Peace Corps teaching high school science in St. Vincent and the Grenadines, after which I returned to the U.S. and earned an M.A.T. (Secondary Science Education) from Georgia College. I then began my long tenure at Stratford Academy.
My passion is working with students to master challenging concepts, to recognize connections among those concepts, and to apply them in abstract problem solving. During my time at Stratford Academy, I was a strong advocate for the After-School Tutorial program, during which students were able to work individually with their teachers to obtain reinforcement and enrichment of the material from class.
