About Ragine

I have always been interested in working with children and helping them reach their highest potential. I begin tutoring in high school at an after-school program for elementary students. I continued tutoring for community based program and private agencies while attending Boston College.

For the past decade I have committed my professional life to the academic development of children. Upon graduating with a Masters in Social Work, I began working as a tutor for a private agency in Miami. Soon, I began teaching elementary school for Gwinnett County Public School. During that time, I have continued to offering supplementary educational services part-time, tutoring over 50 children. Overall, I have nine years of classroom experience and more than a decade of tutoring experience.

I have had a diverse teaching career working with a variety of students including students:
learning disabilities; below grade level performance; on level students; advanced and gifted students; English language learners.

I specialize in providing individualized tutoring to students taking:
K-12; Reading, writing, mathematics, science and social studies; State-mandated standardized tests; SAT, ACT, EOCT, and GED.

My sessions are flexible and are organized to meet the needs of each student. I always begin service by pinpointing individual needs through assessment, examination of standardized test scores, and other school information. Then I develop a student learning plan with specific measurable goals and objectives. I tailor lessons to fit the needs and learning style of students. I aspire to build confidence and critical thinking skills in young people. During instruction, I promote a rigorous and motivating environment that complements the school's curriculum. I give students periodic formative assessments. I ensure that each concept is mastered before moving on to the next. I have been a certified educator for the past 10 years. I also have an extensive resume of tutoring children, teens, and adults in public and private avenues over the past 10 years. I am able to meet at your home or a public library convenient for you. If my qualifications seem to be a match for your family, please contact me.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a Georgia certified teacher in early childhood education. I have been working as an elementary teacher for the past nine years. I have spent over 10 years tutoring elementary students.

Social Studies

I feel that social studies has always been my strongest subject even in school. I received a 5 on the AP U.S. History test and a 4 on the A.P. U.S. Government test. I have tutored several students in U.S. history, U.S. government, and World History. Upon graduating with a Masters in Social Work, I began working as a tutor for a private agency in Miami. Soon, I began teaching elementary school for Gwinnett County Public School.

Special Needs

I am certified in special education for grades k-12 in Georgia. I have worked as a special education teacher in Cobb County School district. I have also tutored several students with special needs from autism to ADHD.

Study Skills

I have been tutoring for over a decade now. I have also worked with students in two different agencies using study skills curriculum material that they provide. Since I have begun tutoring on my own, I have also been gathering my own materials to work with students on study skills.
