About Thomas

Bio

I spent my first year following graduation from Georgia State University as an Assistant Language Teacher in Saitama, Japan. I have always loved teaching, as it provides rapid opportunities for challenge and satisfaction, as teaching provides a challenge in dynamically linking prior knowledge with the subject being taught, and satisfaction comes from the recognition of learning.

Though I have experienced corporate life in IT, the nuance of the English language is my preferred environment. I currently work as an editor for a firm that helps researchers with international publication, polishing the language, flow, and composition of academic journal articles written with a non-native understanding of English.

During my undergraduate studies, I assisted fellow students as a library associate, and I was selected for a peer mentoring program in which I assisted freshman students. As my undergraduate major was Philosophy, I assisted fellow students within that major. This required not only an understanding of the fundamental concepts of Philosophy, but also a firm grasp of essay composition and argument analysis.

As an editor, a large portion of my work involves proofreading for language, ensuring as few possibilities for confusion as possible. While this requires significant skill in rephrasing due to grammatical errors, this often also requires adjustments of word choice. Communication can be simply defined as conveying information, but communication without clarity is noise. My approach in both editing and teaching is to understand, clarify, and simplify.

I graduated from Georgia State University's J. Mack Robinson College of Business with an MSIS in Information Systems Management. I have spent over five years in corporate IT, and in that time I have installed, repaired, and supported networked touchscreen monitors used for conferencing. I have also dealt with telecom routing and monitoring systems, both on-site and cloud-based. I have experience working with various operating systems such as Win
