When I earned my MFA in Creative Writing, I was still working in the advertising industry; however, I knew I wanted to change careers and commit my life to not just writing, but to teaching others how to write effectively and proficiently in their own unique style. So, I began tutoring and working in an online writing lab in 2015, and for the past 10 years, I’ve been providing support, guidance, instruction, constructive feedback and, most importantly, encouragement to secondary and postsecondary students on their writing journeys.
In addition to tutoring writing, I serve students in other capacities. I work as a substitute teacher, specializing in Language Arts. I also serve as a lead instructor in a summer writing program for youth at my local Boys & Girls Club. In the past, I’ve worked with testing organizations, evaluating, and scoring student essay responses. I also have experience working as an instructional facilitator for a non-profit university, teaching creative writing.
Whether a student is staring at a blank screen, unsure of how to start their paper, or just needs help understanding their writing assignment, brainstorming topics, outlining their essay, developing key ideas, or ensuring that their paper is organized, structured, and properly formatted to the style guidelines, I have both the experience and passion to help students grow and develop as writers through a patient and personalized approach.
