I'm in my second year studying Biomedical Physiology at the University of Georgia, and I've always loved helping things "click" for people. Back in Canada, I took AP Math and English in grades 9 and 10, and Grade 11 AP Advanced Functions — which got into some pretty intricate polynomial, rational, and trigonometric function problems. So I'm comfortable teaching math from the basics up through advanced functions, plus reading comprehension, grammar, and essay writing.

My approach is pretty simple: meet the student where they're at. I got a lot of practice with that as a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, where I worked with two very different age groups — kids ages 3 to 5, and kids ages 9 to 11. With the younger group, it was foundational principles like basic counting, letter recognition, and just building the patience and focus a kid needs before they're ready for structured learning. With the older group, I shifted gears completely — guiding them through age-appropriate reading, problem-solving, and hands-on activities that reinforced what they were learning in school, while keeping things engaging enough that it didn't feel like more schoolwork.

That experience taught me how to read a room and adjust on the fly, which carried directly into my role as a HOSA Executive Member. There, I created monthly mock tests and led biweekly seminars, breaking down harder material like medical math and nutrition into lessons that actually felt manageable. I also ran trivia games and group scenarios so students could practice what they'd learned in a low-pressure way, instead of just sitting through another lecture.

Algebra 1

I took AP Mathematics in both grade 9 and grade 10, which included a full study of Algebra 1 as a core component of the curriculum. Through that coursework, I built a strong command of foundational algebraic principles, including solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, working with systems of equations, factoring polynomials, and simplifying expressions involving exponents. I also developed a solid understanding of functions — including domain, range, and how to interpret and graph them — along with slope-intercept and point-slope forms of a line. Since then, I've used and reinforced these concepts continuously through more advanced coursework, including AP Advanced Functions in grade 11, which gives me a strong, practical foundation for helping students build confidence in Algebra 1.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, I worked directly with children aged 3 to 11, gaining firsthand experience teaching elementary-level arithmetic and interpersonal skills to children at various developmental stages. With younger children, I focused on foundational skills such as basic counting and number recognition, as well as developing the patience and focus required for structured learning, whereas with older children, I guided them through more advanced problem-solving and reinforced core math concepts through engaging, hands-on activities. This experience taught me how to break down arithmetic into small, manageable sections and tailor my lectures to the way each child learns best. I bring that same patience and adaptability to tutoring, along with a genuine enjoyment of watching a student go from struggling with a concept to confidently working through it on their own.

I did AP English in both grades 9 and 10, which offered me a lot of practice writing and editing analytical and argumentative essays to a high academic standard. In grade 10, I used these abilities to produce an argumentative essay about hunger in third-world nations, complete with a clear call to action, for the GRC Social Impact Essay Writing Competition; my team's essay placed in the top 14 internationally. Through this experience and my AP coursework, I gained a solid understanding of essay essentials such as developing a convincing thesis, organizing evidence-based arguments, and writing with the clarity and urgency required to convey a genuine argument to a reader.
Geometry

Geometry

I studied AP Mathematics in both grades 9 and 10, which required a rigorous study of geometry as a fundamental component of the curriculum. That training helped me develop a solid understanding of essential geometric principles such as angle, triangle, and polygon characteristics, congruence and similarity, the Pythagorean theorem, area and volume formulae, and an introduction to geometric proofs. I also applied this foundation to Grade 11 AP Advanced Functions, which expanded my grasp of trigonometric connections and how they relate to geometric ideas such as the unit circle and right triangle. This expertise offers me a solid, practical foundation for assisting students in developing confidence in geometry, from basic form attributes to more complicated proof-based reasoning.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

In grades 9 and 10, I studied AP Mathematics, which provided a solid foundation in the fundamentals of prealgebra, such as dealing with integers, fractions, and decimals, comprehending ratios and proportions, and solving basic equations and inequalities. I built on this foundation as an Executive Member of HOSA, where I worked as an event trainer, teaching my peers medical math, including specialized applications like as dose calculations, unit conversions, and other prealgebra-based abilities utilized in healthcare. As a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, I used these principles by teaching prealgebra-level arithmetic to younger children and directing them through age-appropriate problem-solving activities.This combination of teaching peers advanced applications and teaching children foundations provides me with a well-rounded, patient, step-by-step approach to assisting students in developing confidence in prealgebra.

I studied AP English in both ninth and tenth grades, which provided me with a solid foundation in careful reading, assessing books for tone, structure, and argument, text evidence-based conclusions from my reading. As a Summer Camp Counselor at the Kortright Center of Conservation, I put my reading teaching abilities into effect by guiding children aged 9 to 11 through age-appropriate reading activities meant to improve comprehension and keep them interested with the topic. With younger children aged 3 to 5, I also worked on pre-reading abilities such as letter identification and attention, which were required before organized reading teaching could begin. This range of experience, from foundational skills to more advanced comprehension and analysis, gives me a patient, adaptable approach to helping students at any reading level build stronger comprehension and confidence.
