Hi, I'm James! I'm a subsystem engineer working on spacesuits for Artemis-HLS, previously having worked on Lunar Gateway and integration on the VIPER rover, and I moonlight as an amateur astronomer with a collection of telescopes and cameras.
While in college, I volunteered as an instructor at my university's planetarium and took up tutoring, which I came to enjoy as it allowed me to present the subjects I have a keen personal interest in to a wider audience, and to help people grow their own abilities and interest in them. After graduating and working at Johnson Space Center for a few years, I found myself wanting to return to tutoring part-time on top of my engineering work, as a way to continue the outreach I did in college.
I work well with students of all age ranges and skill levels, and am good at explaining things in a variety of ways using both visual and other aids to help illustrate concepts in a more interactive way than is often possible during lecture-only classes.
I have taught multiple courses of up to 5,500 students per lesson, dealing with astrophysics and space science concepts, and have conducted one-on-one tutoring for years with almost a hundred clients taking both introductory and advanced level astronomy and physics courses.
