Hello,

My name is Janice and I would like to take a moment to introduce myself and extend you the opportunity to have me assist you with your individualized tutoring needs. Whether you require tutoring help for your child, or you are an adult in need of academic support to supplement or advance your knowledge to its full potential, I have the skills and expertise to evaluate and create a learning plan that will facilitate the student’s specific needs with the objective of reaching their optimum learning potential under my tutelage. I have over 15 years experience in tutoring children and adults in a variety of subjects in levels Pre-K through College. I have been a volunteer in the "Reading is Fundamental" program and also the "Project Literacy" program for adults. I specialize in helping children and adults with mild Learning Disabilities by assisting them in overcoming and accommodating their specific deficits to reach their full learning potential and academic goals. Because I employ a variety of techniques that are specifically designed to academically support and assist each student and utilize an individual learning plan based upon the student’s needs, I have a history of great success in tutoring all students including, advanced placement, accelerated learners, learning disabled and mainstream students alike.

Over the past 13 years in the Cobb/Cherokee County areas, I have successfully supported my student’s academic needs through the implementation of my individualized tutoring practices. I have worked in concert with their "in school" teachers and assisted them in facilitating their academics, by utilizing my tutoring methods with the General/Special Education curriculums or additionally if applicable, in conjunction with the student’s IEP accommodations.

With regard to specialization for Learning Disabilities; I have experience in tutoring children and adults at all academic levels with ADHD and mild Learning Disabilities like Dyslexia. Working with their teachers and integrating their IEP accommo

Reading

I have over 20 years of experience in tutoring children, teens and adults in Reading. I also participated for many years in volunteering for the "Reading Is Fundamental" and "Project Literacy" programs which help children and adults learn to read. I am very patient with my students and implement plans to help them learn by accommodating each student’s individual needs. I have also worked with many students in all age groups that had mild learning disabilities which delayed or impeded their reading process. Many of the students I have worked with had IEP accommodations that required me to apply specific techniques based upon their individual needs. In some cases it was required that I read to them, so that they could absorb the information and focus on remembering and comprehending what was necessary, rather than labor over reading themselves. Once they were able to process and retain the information then they were supported by me to go over it again and read over it themselves to enhance and improve their own reading skills. I work closely with each student's teachers in implementing an individual plan with specific modalities and techniques that are most appropriate for how each of my students need to learn. I have been very successful in helping all my students to learn to read or increase their reading proficiency and comprehension. Participating in such an important foundational part of each of my student’s lives by helping my students to read is a blessing to me. It brings me great joy in knowing that I have been instrumental in seeing each of my students grow to their full potential and success in their reading and comprehension skills.

Great! Very knowledgeable, helped have my son's learning disability diagnosed.

First of all, for the parents who debate if their child should be tested for a learning disability, I encourage you to research and look into it. I was skeptical, but I had to recognize the symptoms, especially when I noticed my son giving up, hiding failing graded papers, just struggling. If that is your child, understand that it isn't a negative label, nor does the school make them feel inadequate. Prior to Janice's tutoring assistance, my son has struggled academically since Kindergarten. He has ALWAYS had issues with reading comprehension more than anything, which is the one area that applies to all areas of academics. Every year, when my son takes the CRCT, he barely passes in the comprehension area. I couldn't get him to read, and when I did, he would read, and read, and not know what he had just read. The first part of the year, he was failing a few subjects, and I knew (if he passed to 6th grade) he wasn't going to make it in middle school with more responsibilities. Janice has been a tremendous blessing in my family's life. From day one, she carefully zoned in on my son's specific needs. She encouraged me to get him tested for learning disabilities based on the trouble he was having academically, but more so because of how the accommodations she was incorporating through his tutoring sessions were improving his skills. She guided me every step of the way, even accompanying me to his IEP meetings to ensure the school was doing everything on their end to set my son up for success. The teacher, school psychologist and special education department performed thorough testing with my son over a period of a few weeks. My son was diagnosed with a disability with his working memory. He is a very intelligent young boy, but just has a different learning style. Last week I received his progress report, and he now has all A's and B's! I used to ask him what he learned in school, and he would give me brief descriptions, never details. Now, for the first time, he is actually telling me. He was just telling me about immigrants and immigration, the Great Depression and the stock market crash, the roaring 20's. I could not believe my ears. I asked him what he learned in science, and he's telling me about matter and mass. He was struggling in math in the earlier part of the year, because he has trouble remembering the sequences of steps. Now, he brings me his homework to check, and he is explaining the steps to me. He has a whole new level of confidence and we could not be happier with his progress. I hope this review helps those parents who are on the fence about having your child tested. It makes a world of a difference, and can really make or break your child's confidence.
