I have a BA in Writing from Grand Valley State University with a concentration in Fiction, Poetry and Stylistics. I also minored in film production with an emphasis in film theory, history, and screenwriting. At university I wrote a number of short stories, poems, as well as a short film and a full length screen play to completion. I am familiar with the workshop model to provide feedback. I am more comfortable with developmental editing, looking at how to strengthen what the writer is trying to convey, and working through conventions and style to get the writer what they need rather than prescribing my own view of the matter. That isn't to say I don't do copyedits, but my wheel house is encouraging the overall arc of a piece. This translates to academic writing as well, from personal essays to research papers, I have plenty of experience in finding the words needed to convey information in the way that you want. With my background in film studies I also am aware of the terminology and conventions of that field. Writing in general is my bread and butter, and I am currently querying my own fantasy novel, and will have a piece of short fiction published later this year by a small independent press. I'm new to teaching and tutoring but I have a passion for people and a plethora of information that I can share.
