About Akeme

Hello everyone!

My name is Akeme U.

I am a current Software Engineer with a heart to tutor. For undergraduate, I studied Computer Science (BS), Mathematics (AS), and Biology and Spanish (minors). I am currently a certified Spanish-English Medical Interpreter and have experience in medical interpretation and still active in interpreting.

I tutor frequently because I have two younger brothers, whom are 17 and 11 years old. I have always yearned for knowledge and always will. I tutor English, Algebra 1 and 2, Geometry, Pre-algebra, Pre-Calculus, all Calculus levels, Discrete Math, Computer Programming (Java, C++, HTML, Android, PHP, and SQL), Biology (genetics, cell biology, animal physiology), General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry 1 and 2, Physics, Reading, Spanish, Public Speaking, Old Testament and New Testament Religion, and Writing.

I am patient with children, but I have high expectations for success. During my time at Mercer, my initial school, I was a teacher assistant for one year at Ingram Pye Elementary School. I am also a former Big Brother Big Sister volunteer. I also have volunteered at Lumpkin County Middle and High School. And while at the University of North Georgia (UNG), I was the president of the Pre-Health Health Honor Society of UNG.

Though I have many credentials, my most important aspect is that I have a motivation to save lives. Therefore, I aspire to become a Doctor and Preacher. Simply because, I love Jesus Christ and have pleasure in living for Him. While tutoring any child, I tend to apply the subject to the real world and demonstrate its significance to the child's life and the world.

Hope to be your next tutor!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Reading

I say with confidence that I can tutor this subject because of 2 reasons: One, I enjoy reading. Two, I study logic and reasoning. The second reason is relevant because logic is needed to understand what the author is saying and what he is not saying. Many people enjoy reading, but are not capable of using deductive reasoning to draw conclusions. I took the logic and language class during my first year at Mercer University.

Algebra 1

I am currently a Computer Science major and minor in Spanish and Biology at the University of North Georgia in my Senior Year. I have never received a grade less than a B in any of my math classes. I would be delighted in teaching this subject to someone else. I have a younger brother who is in 8th grade, whom I help in math when he is struggling. Math applies to all fields of study and is very essential to learn. Therefore, I have always made math one of my priority subjects in school.

Algebra 2

I am a Computer Science major and Spanish/Biology minor at the University of North Georgia. I am a Senior this year. I have never received a grade less than a B in my math classes. I received a 98 in Algebra 2. I have taken Calculus 1 and 2, Discrete Math, and Mathematical Proofs. I see math every semester because of my major. I would be honored to tutor you in this subject!

Anatomy

As a minor in Biology and having taken the MCAT, Physiology and Anatomy constantly reappears in my studies. I tutored nursing students and Biology in Anatomy and Physiology. I understand there can be a lot of memorization, but there are many underlying connections that relate the information, thus allowing to think instead of brute memorization. Let me know how how I can help!

Biology

As a Biology minor and Pre-Medicinal Student, my knowledge of Biology extends to many levels. Specially, Biology that pertains to the Human Body. Though Biology is mostly memorization, there is a method of critical thinking that must applied to effectively understand the information at hand. I would be glad to assist in showing such method. I have taken introduction to Biology 1 and 2, Genetics, Cell Biology, and Animal Physiology.

Calculus

The math classes I have taken are Pre-Calculus to Calculus 3 and Discrete Math. So whatever it may be, series and sequences, integrals, boolean algebra, etc. I am sure that it can be taught. Math has different perspectives. Thus, it can seem easy when looked at from a different way. That's where I can help.

Chemistry

I have taken many chemistry classes because of my Pre-Medical Track. Including General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry 1 and 2. I understand chemistry very well and would have no problem teaching it.

English

I am a Computer Science and Spanish Major at the University of North Georgia. I am well-qualified in tutoring this subject for 2 reasons.

The first reason is because Spanish is my major and it is not just filled with Spanish classes, it also includes English and French Grammar. In order for me to translate from English to Spanish, I must be able to comprehend the grammatical structure of English sentences.

The second reason is that I have already taken 4 college courses in English Literature and still have more to take. I have a 3.8 average in all my English Classes. 3 of those classes have been taken at Mercer University and 1 at the University of North Georgia.

I would delight in teaching what I know to someone else.

Java

I have a degree in Computer Science. I have a year and a half worth of classes using Java. I am currently a Mobile Developer in Android, which uses Java as its core language. I have also tutored students in Java and have enjoyed the ability for students to excel and create their own projects.

Physics

I have a Computer Science degree and Math degree from the University of North Georgia I have taken Physics 1 and 2. Because of my experience with computer science, I have found many ways to explain Physics to students.

SAT Math

I have taken many math classes. some of my classes have been precalculus
Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3 and Discrete math with Statistics.

Spanish

Hello!
I am a Computer Science/Pre-Medicine student with a Minor in Spanish at the University of North Georgia! I have spoken Spanish for 6 years. My first year in College was at Mercer University and I was in the Hispanic Big Brother Big Sister program mentoring a younger Hispanic Child. I am fluent and currently learning composition and literature of the Spanish Language! I have traveled to Honduras with a church, translating and learning about God. I adore the language and plan to travel to Mexico during the summer of 2013 for manufacturing/translating the Bible into Spanish. My aspiration is to become a Doctor and Pastor.
Hope to see you soon!

SQL

As a Computer Science major, I have taken a Database class, Web Programming, and my Senior Project. In all of these classes, I have utilized MySQL, which is very similar to SQL in many ways. Even so, I have also been a tutor in this subject. Combining MySQL with Java, PHP, and JavaScript, have been some of my past experiences. Nevertheless, I am humble and glad to be your next tutor in this subject.

Great tutor, who encouraged my son and helped him to achieve an A in Cal 2 — Ekemini was very patient and helpful with our college age son. He actually got him excited about Math which has never been the case. We are now hiring him to help our son with Calculus 3 so I am looking forward to hearing about his progress. An A in Calc 2 was awesome and I hope he can do the same in Calc 3. I would definitely recommend him to others that are struggling. ...
