Hello, I'm Alex! I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in English and possess a TEFL certification. For the past four years I've been teaching English in Asia. I've taught a range of students from as young as 3 years old to as old as 19. The teachers I remember best are the ones who made their classes the most engaging and brought an empathetic ear to their instruction. Sometimes learning a new thing can be difficult, especially when it's in an entirely new language!
I strive to make students in my instruction comfortable navigating the nuances of the English language whether it be in reading, writing or just general fluency. Having patience, understanding and being able to adapt to each student's needs is a welcome challenge. I love being able to help a student realize their full potential and reach a new level of understanding.
I have over four years of teaching experience both online and in the classroom. I am well versed in lesson planning and practice differentiated instruction. Most recently, I've taught elementary school students (2nd and 5th grade). For the younger students I focus more on vocabulary, basic sentence structures and phonics in a fun learning atmosphere. For my older students (6-12th grade), I still keep an engaging atmosphere while focusing more on grammar and fluency.
I find that my experience with other languages (mainly Mandarin and Spanish) has also been incredibly useful in effectively teaching the idiosyncrasies of the English language.
