I am passionate about students possessing the basic fundamental skills in elementary school in order for them to obtain their goals with the least amount of struggle. Educational success is my goal for every student. Missed getting the basics? I can help with that! Just starting to read or understand numbers or math? I can help with that. Together, the student and I can build a strong foundation of knowledge that prepares them for their future.
As a tutor, I work to gain insight into the area of need, how the student best learns new material, and then reinforce what is learned until it is mastered.
During my twenty-nine years as a classroom teacher, I have taught from the pre-school to the college level. I have been Principal of two different schools. I have also kept up with current educational concerns and know the requirements for graduation.

Phonics aids a student to be able to decode and read words. Once a word is decoded, then the student can comprehend its meaning by the surrounding text. Confidence in reading is a foundation for all learning. Phonics takes the guessing out of reading. I have taught many students to read, using phonics. Even my own sons learned to read with this method. I have also taught teachers in training how to use phonics for teaching students to read. Years of experience gives me many techniques to help your child learn to read with phonics.
