Exposure to both environments has given me a practical understanding of how finance operates in each—from public-sector budgeting cycles, appropriations, and program-level cost analysis to private-sector capital budgeting, credit decisions, and corporate performance reporting.
My teaching experience is a mixture of formal mentoring in the workplace and informal one-to-one tutoring. In my roles, I have frequently coached junior analysts and interns on financial statement analysis, Excel modeling, and the rationale behind budget and credit decisions, guiding them through live cases step by step. Outside of work, I have helped undergraduate students, MBA candidates, and early-career professionals prepare for finance coursework, technical interviews, and certification exams. My sessions are usually one-on-one over video, ranging from single problem-solving meetings to multi-week prep engagements, with students from college freshmen to working professionals in their thirties.
My approach is practical and problem-driven. I begin by understanding what the student wants to achieve—a grade, an exam, or an interview—and design sessions around the gaps in their reasoning rather than re-teaching what they already know. For coursework, I work through problems from the student's own syllabus and textbook. For interview prep, I work through technical questions and modeling cases in the same form they appear on the job. I take care to explain the logic behind each formula, because students who understand the reasoning retain the material long after the session ends.
