I have worked with children primarily in high school (ages 14-18) that especially have attention deficits and or learning disabilities in the realm of science and math based subjects. I've tutored high school chemistry, environmental and honors biology, college biological subjects, and algebra. I am willing to tutor/teach trigonometry as well. My way of teaching provides students with scenarios that could be applicable in the real world. I find that application and conceptualization of subjects are the best way for my students to not only learn, but understand and retain information in the best way.
I often provide visuals and I try to base my teaching abilities on how well students respond to different stimuli (hearing, visuals, hands-on projects...etc.) when presented with different tasks from their teachers. I have almost a year of experience with Varsity Tutors that allowed me to teach/tutor at least 10 students. I closely monitored these students because at least half of them had problems with test-taking and or conceptualizing. I really try to be thorough in breaking topics down with my students since learning a lot of information at once can be overwhelming (more often than not). This means assigning homework tasks, referencing helpful videos on You tube, or even involving the parents for emotional support or to help them practice on their own time.
I prefer one-on-one tutoring sessions to narrow down every students strengths and weaknesses, so I've done so in my current and past tutoring experiences. I also believe it helps them to not be so anxious and focus more on the topics at hand. I have a B.S. in General Biology from Georgia Southern University and I have almost a year of tutoring experience. I also am a certified Nutritionist and Personal Trainer so I am well versed in a biology/chemistry background.
