I am an experienced college English instructor with more than seven years of teaching experience. I hold a BA in English Literature and an MA in Teaching from Georgia State University, where I have also completed the coursework for an MA in English Literature and am currently writing my thesis on Terrance Hayes, American sonnets, and literary influence. I have been certified to teach high-school English and have taught dual-enrollment students as well as traditional and adult college students.

My teaching experience includes first-year composition, literary analysis, American literature, business writing, and developmental English. I have also tutored students individually through Georgia State University's Literacy Center. As an instructor, I have designed and redesigned college English courses and developed open educational resources for composition and literature. I was named Georgia Piedmont Technical College's 2024 Rick Perkins Teacher of the Year and have served as a reader for the AP English Literature and Composition exam.

My tutoring approach is centered on helping students understand how and why writing works rather than simply correcting their papers. I can help students develop topics and thesis statements, organize and strengthen essays, construct effective paragraphs, use evidence, conduct research, document sources in MLA and APA style, analyze literature, and revise for clarity, grammar, and style. I adapt my approach to each student's needs and explain instructor feedback in practical terms. My goal is not merely to improve the assignment in front of us but to help students develop writing, reading, and analytical skills they can use independently in future classes.

I have also served as a reader for the AP English Literature and Composition exam. I have more than seven years of experience teaching college English, including first-year composition, business writing, and developmental English. I teach students to improve clarity, organization, sentence structure, grammar, style, and effective use of evidence while developing a writing process that works for them. My graduate training includes practical grammar, rhetoric, and the pedagogy of writing, and I have extensive experience designing college writing courses and instructional materials.
