I’m Amariah L., MS, NCC, LPC, a master’s-level licensed professional counselor with nine years of experience helping adults understand complex ideas, organize their thoughts, and apply what they are learning to real-life situations. My graduate education and professional work have given me a strong foundation in psychology, human development, social systems, research, and academic writing. I am especially well suited to tutoring college students in psychology, introductory sociology, human services, counseling-related courses, and APA-style writing.

Although my background is primarily in one-on-one counseling and psychoeducation rather than a traditional classroom, teaching has always been central to my work. I regularly explain psychological theories, behavior, development, identity, trauma, relationships, and social context in clear, accessible language. I have also developed workshops, educational resources, and structured learning materials for adults. My approach is collaborative and practical: I connect abstract concepts to real examples, check for understanding, and break large or confusing assignments into manageable steps.

I also support students with brainstorming, thesis development, outlining, paragraph organization, integrating sources, APA citations, revising drafts, note-taking, study planning, and executive-function challenges. I coach students through their own work rather than completing assignments for them. I am particularly comfortable working with ADHD, neurodivergent, chronically ill, overwhelmed, or returning adult students who may know more than they can easily organize or put onto the page. My goal is not simply to help a student complete one assignment, but to help them understand the material and leave with strategies they can use independently. Feel free to message me with your course, assignment, deadline, and the kind of support you need.

Approved Subjects

Social Work

Social Work

I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, along with bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Women’s Studies, and I am a licensed professional counselor with nine years of experience in behavioral health and human services. My education and clinical work have given me a strong foundation in human development, trauma-informed care, ethics, cultural humility, systems theory, case conceptualization, and the effects of identity, family, community, disability, and social conditions on well-being. I can help undergraduate social work students understand course concepts, analyze case studies, organize papers, and use APA style while connecting theory to practical examples. Although my professional license is in counseling rather than social work, my academic background and clinical experience overlap substantially with foundational BSW coursework.
Sociology

Sociology

I hold a bachelor’s degree in Sociology, a second bachelor’s degree in Women’s Studies, and a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My academic and professional background gives me extensive experience with sociological theory, social inequality, identity, culture, institutions, research, and the ways social systems shape individual and community well-being. I can help students understand complex course material, analyze readings and case examples, develop clear arguments, organize research papers, and use APA style effectively. I am especially skilled at making abstract concepts accessible by connecting them to current events, lived experience, and practical examples.
Study Skills

Study Skills

My qualifications in study skills come from my academic background, counseling training, and years of experience helping people understand complex information, organize their thoughts, and build systems that work for their learning style. I hold a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and bachelor’s degrees in Sociology and Women’s Studies. My graduate training included extensive work in learning processes, motivation, executive functioning, anxiety, attention, goal-setting, and individualized support. In my professional work, I have helped clients and students strengthen skills such as organization, planning, task initiation, follow-through, reading comprehension, writing structure, test preparation, and confidence with difficult material. I am especially comfortable supporting students who feel overwhelmed, anxious, discouraged, neurodivergent, or unsure how to study effectively. My approach is warm, structured, collaborative, and practical. I help students identify what is getting in the way, break tasks into manageable steps, create realistic study plans, and develop strategies for retention, focus, and independent learning.
