I am an Atlanta-based drummer with over 20 years of playing experience and a background that includes church music, percussion ensembles, marching band, symphonic band, and live performance settings. My musical development has been shaped through performance-based training and instruction from band directors, percussion instructors, and music directors throughout my musical journey. While I do not hold a formal music degree, I have spent years developing my musicianship through ensemble participation, independent study, and practical performance experience.
My teaching approach focuses on helping students build strong fundamentals, confidence, and real musical understanding. I place a strong emphasis on time feel, groove, coordination, listening skills, and learning how the drums function within a band or musical setting. Rather than teaching students to simply memorize exercises, I work to help them understand how the skills they practice connect to actual music. Lessons are structured around the individual student's goals and experience level, whether they are complete beginners or developing players looking to strengthen their musicianship.
In addition to my performance experience, I have experience working with young students through volunteer instruction with Atlanta Drum Academy, where I assisted children ages 8–14 with percussion and drumline fundamentals. This experience reinforced the importance of patience, clear communication, encouragement, and age-appropriate instruction. My goal is to create a positive learning environment where students feel supported, challenged, and motivated to grow while developing the skills needed to become confident and capable musicians.
