Hello all, my name is Itziar. I recently graduated from college with a bachelor's degree in biology with a pre-health concentration. I plan to attend dental school, but am taking a gap year for the 26-27 academic year and want to continue tutoring during this time.
I have 3 years of experience tutoring at my college, totaling over 700 hours. This was a paid job with regular training to ensure the best service for fellow students. All of my sessions were 1-on-1, either through appointment or on a walk-in basis. I graduated with a 3.92 GPA and earned an A in every course I took except for Physics I. I offered tutoring services in every course I took. However, most of my experience is in Biology (including Anatomy), Organic Chemistry, and Math. I was named “Tutor of the Year” at my college for the 25-26 academic year.
For a successful tutoring session, the student must have the right mindset. I am not a professor, so I will not lecture. Quite the opposite, the student generally does most of the talking in one of my sessions. As an introvert, I realize this can be daunting, but the more you contribute, the easier it is for me to help you succeed. The most important trait I picked up from my job is flexibility, as there is no single approach that works for all students. I let the student take charge of a session, as they know better than I what works and how they want to be helped.
Although I am mainly interested in tutoring for the DAT, I can also tutor various science courses. My DAT scores are as follows: 450 AA, 460 science average, and 480 perceptual. As a first-generation college graduate with no doctors in my immediate or extended family, I had to navigate the DAT and applications on my own. For this reason, I am passionate about helping other pre-dental students in their journeys. In addition to the regular courses I tutored in, I also helped with DAT prep and applications during my senior year.
