Hello! My name is Chelsea, and I am a Junior majoring in Political Science with a minor in AfroAmerican and African Studies. My post-undergraduate plan is to attend law school and pursue a career in human rights.
I am very passionate about education and helping others achieve their goals, and as a result, I have a diverse array of tutoring experiences! I have classroom experience through being an AmeriCorps Teaching Fellow for Breakthrough Atlanta; I have completed over 300 hours of service, instructing 17 rising 8th grade scholars in English/Language Arts. In high school, I tutored 8th-11th-grade students in Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2. I have also been a Peer Advisor for Michigan Research and Discovery Scholars, a University of Michigan Residential Learning Community.
I facilitate a cohort of 10 first-year undergraduate students in finding, securing, and maintaining an undergraduate research position; I accomplished this through reviewing project applications (resume and cover letters), organizing and leading workshops, holding bi-weekly office to assist a cohort of over 100+ first-year undergraduate students, and had monthly check ins with my 10 assigned advisees to track academic progress and personal well-being.
From the classroom, to volunteering, to one-on-one, my instructional methodology is consistent: thorough student-centered and empathetic. I am intentional about meeting my students where they are upon our first meeting, and adapting to what they disclose is how they learn the best!
