For many students, independent reading, essay writing and literature analysis can be challenging or even boring tasks. As a teacher and tutor who can relate to these struggles, I help reluctant learners understand and master these crucial areas in English and Language Arts (ELA) while encouraging their progress and personalizing their learning experience. A former high school teacher, I am certified in English and social sciences for grades 6-12.

During my time in the classroom, I taught English and research skills to core level and magnet students. My core level students passed or excelled on the state exam covering writing and reading comprehension, while magnet students were very successful on the magnet exam that required learners to do critical analysis, make inferences from complex text, and complete a research project. I specialize in literature analysis, from classics to modern books and short stories covering a broad range of genres. I guide students step by step through the writing process to help prepare for an exam, work on an essay or research paper for a class assignment, or prepare for a more creative project. Additionally, I am experienced in helping reluctant readers improve their comprehension skills (and sometimes develop a lifelong love of reading!).

I am passionate about teaching and tutoring, as I enjoy helping learners meet their goals. I enjoy working with individuals or small groups to provide more direct feedback and attention.
