Hi there!
I’m Max, a CRLA-certified tutor and student at the University of North Georgia. I graduate in a few weeks with my Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, and will soon be starting my Ph.D. in electroanalytical chemistry at Florida State University.
I believe the best way to learn is to teach. Tutoring allows me to continually strengthen my own understanding by finding new ways to explain concepts based on each student’s needs. In chemistry, everything builds on itself, so I like a bottom-up approach. In our sessions, we’ll start with what you know and work through each concept step by step until it feels clear. From there, we’ll apply what you’ve learned using practice problems or new material to reinforce your understanding.
I have a year of experience tutoring undergraduate students in a face-to-face setting. At UNG, my students range from 17 to 50 years old, so I’ve worked with traditional and non-traditional learners. I primarily tutor General Chemistry I & II and lower-level mathematics. Through this experience, I’ve built strong relationships with my students and developed strategies to support a wide range of learning styles.
In addition, I’ve spent three years as a Lab Teaching Assistant, guiding students through lab safety, procedures, and hands-on experiments that connect directly to lecture material. This experience has given me extensive time working with students. I understand the areas where students often need additional support and how to help bridge those gaps effectively.
My goal is for you to truly learn chemistry—not just enough to pass the test, but enough to feel confident learning independently in the future. I’ll never just give you the answer. I’ll guide you through your reasoning until we reach it together. If something isn’t making sense, we’ll revisit the foundations and build back up from there.
Chemistry doesn’t come easily to everyone, and that’s okay. I find it both a challenge and a joy to teach chemistry, especially if you think you can’t do it, because I know you can!

Chemistry

I graduate in a few weeks with my Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry. I have spent my undergraduate career reinforcing and cementing my chemistry knowledge. I have acted as a Lecture Assistant in General Chemistry courses helping students with conceptual material for four semesters total. My passion is being in the lab, doing experiments, so I have served as a Laboratory assistant in undergraduate chemistry labs for about 6 semesters. Most recently, I became CRLA-certified to be a STEM tutor for chemistry and mathematics in my university’s in person tutoring center. I feel uniquely qualified not only to do chemistry but to teach it to others effectively. I have worked with a wide range of students ton chemistry and can easily identify pitfalls in understanding.
