School can be frustrating and overwhelming for a child when there are roadblocks to their learning. My desire is to remove those roadblocks and equip your student with simple and effective tools to put them on the road to success. My training includes an intense phonics program and effective and easy to understand teaching of all subjects on the elementary and middle school level.
I am a senior in college finishing up my degree in elementary education. I finished high school with a 4.0 GPA, and have been in the top of my class throughout college. I have been working with children on a weekly basis for the last 8 years, helping them reach their potential in various academic areas. My desire is to listen closely to what the parent feels their child needs, while at the same time evaluating through diagnostic testing which approach would be best to help the child learn and reach their potential. I look forward to helping your child learn!

This was our 5th lesson and since we have started we have seen a huge improvement in our daughters reading, but also in her confidence in reading. Last night listening to her lesson and hearing the happiness and excitement because she was able to perform her reading exercises and she was enjoying it! Thank you so much Amy for your time and patience!
Amy is working on reading and math skills with my 7 yr old daughter. She comes out happy and says she really has a lot of fun!
After 6 sessions with Amy, my granddaughter's reading scores went up in 6 areas. We are thrilled! Can't wait to see what she is able to do by next grading period!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a senior in college studying elementary education, I feel that I am qualified to tutor for k-6th grade. I have been working with and teaching children for the past eight years. I use an intense phonics program to help with reading, and have taken several classes on tutoring in math, spelling, grammar, and reading.
As a elementary education major, I have taken several classes on teaching elementary math. I believe that in this area, repetition is the key to learning. With the methods of memorization and review, many students have been helped to excel in their math classes.
I believe that the best way to learn science is to experience it. With interactive experiments, I believe students better understand what they are learning. Also, constant review has helped many students to grasp what they have learned in class and do well in future lessons.
I have always excelled in English class in school. Throughout high school I took advanced English classes, and received A's every semester. Also, I tested into an advanced English class in college and received high A's in all of my English classes. Not only have I done well in English class, I have tutored several college and high school students in this subject. I very much enjoy English and would love to help you reach your full potential in this very important subject!
As an elementary education major, I have taken classes on teaching grammar to the elementary age group. The key to learning grammar is to master the rules. With much repetition, this can easily be done and the student will grasp the concepts.
As an elementary education major, I have taken several classes that specialize in the teaching of phonics. My approach to reading is through giving a strong phonics based foundation that equips children with the necessary tools to become good readers. My approach to teaching reading has brought success even to children with previous remedial reading skills.
As an elementary education major, I have taken many classes on teaching reading. Phonics is the base of learning to read, but once that foundation has been laid, the student must begin to read at a more advanced level. I believe that the more you read, the better you read! It is important to instill a love of reading in a child so that they may excel in this area.
The key to becoming a better speller is practice. Practice can be made exciting for the student with the use of games and fun worksheets! As an elementary education major, I have taken classes on teaching spelling, and I have learned many fun and successful ways to help a student learn to excel at spelling.
As an elementary education major, I have taken classes on teaching vocabulary. There are many fun ways to help a student remember the meanings of words. By constantly reviewing in a way that is enjoyable to the student, it is possible to enhance their vocabulary and enrich their mind.
