I have more than 21 years of experience teaching physics and related subjects at colleges and universities, and I truly enjoy helping students understand concepts that may initially seem difficult or intimidating. I have also tutored high school students both through online tutoring platforms, such as Varsity Tutors, and through in-person tutoring sessions at students’ homes or other locations. I hold a Ph.D. in Physics with a concentration in Biophysics from Texas Tech University and an M.S. in Medical Physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Throughout my teaching career, I have taught approximately 29 different undergraduate and graduate courses, including algebra- and calculus-based physics, general physics, modern physics, quantum physics, nuclear physics, electromagnetism, astronomy, conceptual physics, and physics and astronomy laboratories. I have taught students with a wide range of academic backgrounds and preparation levels, including large college classes with as many as 190 students, as well as students who needed more individualized guidance.
My approach to tutoring is centered on understanding rather than memorization. I believe that students learn physics best when they understand why a concept or equation works and how to apply it to a new problem. I therefore explain difficult topics step by step, identify the specific point where a student is having difficulty, and then work through examples together until the student can solve similar problems independently. I adapt my teaching style to each student's background, learning pace, and goals. Whether you are struggling with the fundamentals of physics, preparing for a college course or exam, or working on more advanced topics, I will try to make the material clear, organized, and approachable. My experience teaching both theoretical and laboratory physics also allows me to connect mathematical concepts with physical phenomena and real-world applications.
