About Florentina

Bio

I'm Florentina! I'm an undergraduate biochemistry major at Northeastern University, on the pre-health track. Growing up, the teachers I remember most weren't necessarily the ones who taught my favorite subjects, but the ones who were patient and made material feel approachable. That's the kind of tutor I try to be.

I have one year of paid experience (2024-2025) as a math instructor at Mathnasium, where I worked at small tables of 4-5 students at a time, each at a different skill level. Even though we sat together as a group, I worked individually with each student, since everyone needed something different depending on where they were in their learning, sometimes shifting from basic addition with a younger student to algebra with a high schooler within the same session. I also scored a 710 on the Math section of the SAT, so I'm comfortable with both the content and how it's tested.

My approach is to break difficult concepts into small, logical steps, actively listen to a student's questions, and figure out exactly where their thinking went off track so we can work through it together, rather than repeating the same explanation and hoping it eventually clicks. What I love most about math is that moment when a student finally sees it, when a problem that seemed impossible suddenly makes sense, and I try to build every lesson around creating more of those moments, since that's usually when a student's whole relationship with math starts to change.

I specialize in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Prealgebra, Geometry, and SAT Math preparation, focusing on both content and building comfort with a test's pacing and question patterns. I care most about students understanding the reasoning behind a method, not just memorizing steps.

I tutor exclusively online and work flexibly around a student's schedule, with a 24-hour cancellation policy. I want every student I work with to walk away feeling more confident. Feel free to reach out anytime, I'd love to hear what you're working on!

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

As a college student pursuing coursework in advanced math, I have a deep understanding of Algebra 1 fundamentals, including linear functions, systems of equations, factoring, and quadratics. I focus on helping high school and middle school students connect algebraic formulas to real-world logic so concepts make intuitive sense rather than relying on memorization. My tutoring method involves step-by-step problem walkthroughs, targeted practice, and identifying specific sticking points to boost exam performance. I have worked with students across various skill levels to help them turn challenging algebra concepts into high-scoring subjects.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

As a college student taking advanced quantitative coursework, I have a strong foundation in Algebra 2 concepts, including systems of equations, quadratic functions, logarithms, and polynomial expressions. Having successfully mastered high school algebra and upper-level college math, I specialize in breaking down multi-step functions and abstract concepts into clear, manageable steps. My tutoring approach emphasizes problem-solving strategies, targeted practice, and identifying key patterns so students can build true conceptual understanding. I work closely with students to help them master tough homework topics, prepare for exams, and regain confidence in math.
Calculus

Calculus

As a Biochemistry major who has successfully navigated upper-level college math, I specialize in making Calculus intuitive, structured, and manageable. I help students master core single-variable concepts—including limits, derivatives, integration techniques, and the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus—with a focus on both AP Calculus AB/BC prep and college-level coursework. My approach emphasizes breaking down multi-step problem solving into clear logical steps, bridging foundational algebra or trigonometry gaps, and analyzing common errors. My goal is to help every student build true conceptual understanding and long-term problem-solving confidence.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As a college student with a year of formal instruction experience at Mathnasium, I specialize in helping elementary students build a strong, confident foundation in core math skills. I focus on making fundamental concepts—such as place value, fractions, decimals, and basic word problems—engaging, intuitive, and stress-free. My tutoring approach emphasizes patience, encouraging communication, and step-by-step problem solving tailored to each child's learning pace. I partner closely with parents to support classroom curriculum, reinforce healthy study habits, and help young learners develop lasting mathematical confidence.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

As a Biochemistry major taking advanced quantitative and STEM coursework, I excel at making core science concepts engaging, intuitive, and accessible for elementary students. I help young learners explore foundational topics in earth, life, and physical sciences through interactive problem-solving and real-world examples. My approach focuses on nurturing natural curiosity, building scientific vocabulary, and developing strong reading and reasoning habits. I work closely with parents to reinforce classroom lesson plans and ensure students build a confident foundation for future STEM learning.
Geometry

Geometry

As a Biochemistry major with a year of formal math tutoring experience at Mathnasium, I specialize in making high school Geometry intuitive, logical, and structured. I help students master core spatial and analytical topics—including geometric proofs, coordinate geometry, transformations, and triangle trigonometry. My approach focuses on breaking complex spatial problems into clear, step-by-step reasoning so students understand the logic rather than relying on memorized formulas. I strive to build both mathematical precision and test-taking confidence in every session.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I am currently a college student with a strong background in higher-level mathematics, giving me a solid grasp of fundamental pre-algebraic concepts. I specialize in breaking down core topics like fractions, decimals, integers, and basic linear equations into clear, manageable steps. My tutoring approach focuses on building student confidence and fixing foundational gaps so students feel prepared for high school math. Having helped peers and younger students master these essentials, I focus on patience, visual examples, and practical problem-solving strategies.
Precalculus

Precalculus

As a Biochemistry major with a year of formal math instruction at Mathnasium, I specialize in helping high school students bridge the gap between Algebra 2, Trigonometry, and advanced Calculus. I help students master core Pre-Calculus concepts—including polynomial and rational functions, logarithmic and exponential models, trigonometric identities, and vectors. My approach breaks down complex mathematical proofs and analytical concepts into clear, logical steps so students build lasting conceptual understanding rather than relying on rote memorization. I aim to equip every student with the problem-solving confidence needed to excel in upper-level STEM coursework.
PSAT

PSAT

As a Biochemistry major with a full year of formal tutoring experience at Mathnasium, I specialize in preparing students for the quantitative sections of standardized tests like the PSAT. I focus on mastering high-yield topics—including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, and data analysis—while teaching practical test-taking strategies and time-management shortcuts. My approach helps students identify underlying learning gaps, eliminate second-guessing, and build lasting confidence for test day.
SAT Math

SAT Math

As a college student taking advanced coursework in quantitative subjects, I have a comprehensive understanding of the topics tested on the SAT Math section, including algebra, problem-solving, data analysis, and passport to advanced math. Having achieved a 710 on the SAT Math section myself, I understand both the core mathematical concepts and the specific test-taking strategies required to score high. My tutoring approach focuses on breaking down complex word problems, identifying time-saving shortcuts, and targeted practice on a student's specific weak spots. I work closely with students to build test-day confidence and improve their pacing across all question types.
Trigonometry

Trigonometry

As a Biochemistry major with a year of formal tutoring experience at Mathnasium, I specialize in making abstract Trigonometry concepts intuitive and manageable. My background relies heavily on trigonometric principles, allowing me to help students master everything from right-triangle ratios and the unit circle to complex identities and wave functions. I focus on breaking down multi-step proofs into clear, logical steps while building strong problem-solving habits. My goal is to bridge foundational algebra gaps so students feel completely confident tackling both homework and exams.
