I'm Florentina! I'm an undergraduate biochemistry major at Northeastern University, on the pre-health track. Growing up, the teachers I remember most weren't necessarily the ones who taught my favorite subjects, but the ones who were patient and made material feel approachable. That's the kind of tutor I try to be.
I have one year of paid experience (2024-2025) as a math instructor at Mathnasium, where I worked at small tables of 4-5 students at a time, each at a different skill level....
I have one year of paid experience (2024-2025) as a math instructor at Mathnasium, where I worked at small tables of 4-5 students at a time, each at a different skill level. Even though we sat together as a group, I worked individually with each student, since everyone needed something different depending on where they were in their learning, sometimes shifting from basic addition with a younger student to algebra with a high schooler within the same session. I also scored a 710 on the Math section of the SAT, so I'm comfortable with both the content and how it's tested.
My approach is to break difficult concepts into small, logical steps, actively listen to a student's questions, and figure out exactly where their thinking went off track so we can work through it together, rather than repeating the same explanation and hoping it eventually clicks. What I love most about math is that moment when a student finally sees it, when a problem that seemed impossible suddenly makes sense, and I try to build every lesson around creating more of those moments, since that's usually when a student's whole relationship with math starts to change.
I specialize in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Prealgebra, Geometry, and SAT Math preparation, focusing on both content and building comfort with a test's pacing and question patterns. I care most about students understanding the reasoning behind a method, not just memorizing steps.
I tutor exclusively online and work flexibly around a student's schedule, with a 24-hour cancellation policy. I want every student I work with to walk away feeling more confident. Feel free to reach out anytime, I'd love to hear what you're working on!
