I've been teaching for two decades in a variety of settings including public high school, private school, university classrooms, and writing centers. My journey began 25 years ago when I was an undergraduate English major. I worked as a writing tutor assisting peer students with writing assignments across every discipline. I then attended graduate school and earned a Masters in Teaching English. It was a demanding program with a focus on literature, and I finished with Magna Cum Laude status, a certified teaching license, and qualifications to teach both high school and college.
Since then, I've taught in public high schools, private schools, one-on-one tutoring sessions, and university classrooms. I spent 6 years as the Writing Center Director at a small college and trained writing tutors as I also taught composition classes. I also received the Teaching Excellence Award in 2018.
I value student response and perspectives on what they read, and I believe the dialogue that takes place between us is the basis for student writing. I use my past experience as a University Writing Center Director and my knowledge of peer tutoring practice to show students that writing can be a collaborative process. No single assignment or text stands in isolation. I encourage students to find relationships between assignments, texts, and ideas as they move from one unit to another throughout the school year and grow with every step.
My own personal essays have been published in a variety of media outlets from Huffington Post to HerStry, so I have a passion for writing and coaching students to become better writers and communicators. Feel free to contact me with any questions, and I'd love to help you learn and grow!
