My name is Kathia, and for more than twenty years I have made my living through conversation and storytelling. As a professional journalist, I interview people in four languages: English, Portuguese, Spanish, and German. Teaching has been a thread through my whole career. I began tutoring in college, and later worked as a corporate trainer in finance, where I learned to break down complex material, adapt to different learning styles, and build confidence in nervous learners.
My specialty in English is helping students become comfortable in everyday conversation. I know what it is like to communicate in a language that is not your first, because I have done it in three. If a student gets stuck, I can explain a concept in Spanish, Portuguese, or German. My lessons are not grammar drills; we talk from the first minute about real topics, because fluency comes from speaking, not memorizing. I am especially effective with adults preparing for job interviews and workplace communication.
I also tutor history, drawing on my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Temple University. I teach US and World History the way a journalist tells a story: real people making difficult choices under pressure. I connect the past to current events, so history stops being a list of dates and becomes one continuous story.
