On a personal note I love to teach and work with others. My biggest enjoyment is derived from traveling (25 countries) and reading as my interests include various subjects. This past weekend I attended workshops to keep my skills updated in regard to teaching ESL. In my volunteer jobs I work with Americans, Latinos, and Haitians, using my language skills for communication.
If a person lives in the United States, he or she needs to learn English. Language is one of the keys to obtain better employment as well as to enable a person to deal with everyday needs such as making appointments, ex. medical or in helping your children with their schooling and in maintaining contact with your child's school. I want and enjoy helping others learn to make their living in the U.S. My focus is teaching to meet the student's need. What I call "survival skills" such as learning to open a bank account, to pass the written driver's test, to make appointments are I feel most important to learn as well as everyday vocabulary to help the student in daily tasks and living.
After teaching Spanish for many years I feel that I know ways to teach the language to make it understandable and easy to learn. I did teach in Spain for two summers, took numerous classes and workshops to improve my skills. I have also attended school in Guatemala to update and improve my skills.
