High School Teacher Specializing in Algebra and Geometry

I've been teaching high school math for 12 years and tutoring for 15. I graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Secondary Education-Mathematics. When I was in high school everyone told me I should be an engineer because I was good at math. But when I got to college the subject didn't excite me. I found that I got more joy from helping my peers who were struggling in some math class. That's when I realized teaching was for me. I started my teaching career in South Florida where I taught Algebra and Geometry for 6 years. I taught mostly 9th and 10th graders but I've also tutored all the other subjects in the high school curriculum.

Teaching in South Florida gave me a lot of experience with students from diverse backgrounds. After 6 years I moved up here to the Metro Atlanta area. At my current school I've taught mostly Algebra and Geometry but I also had the opportunity to teach AP Calculus. For the last 2 years I have been teaching a co-taught class which means my classes include students with disabilities. I always try to meet my students where they are. Much of the population at my current school are students who are several grades below grade level in their math skills. I start my lessons by assessing the students' knowledge on the topic with probing questions. I pride myself on being able to approach the material from whatever angle the student needs to best understand the material.
