Hi, I'm Peter! I hold a Master of Arts in Classics (Latin and Greek) from Rutgers University and have 21 years of experience teaching Latin at both the secondary and collegiate levels. As a veteran high school teacher, I have worked with students at all levels, from Latin 1 through AP Latin, including the newest AP syllabus. My students consistently achieve high success rates, with many moving on to Ivy League and top-tier universities—as much a testament to their hard work as to our collaboration.
While I have a lifetime of classroom experience, I have enjoyed tutoring students on a few occasions. I am familiar with most popular textbooks and possess an abundant library of study and review resources. While I specialize in the grammar-translation approach, I readily accommodate any textbook or learning style. Our lessons will combine targeted review and new material, always concluding with an optional practice assignment. You can expect a strong emphasis on mastering syntax and structure: a strong vocabulary is a necessity, but it will only get you so far with complex authors like Vergil and Pliny.
Latin students are incredibly motivated to succeed, which makes teaching this language so rewarding. I look forward to working with you!
