I studied English Literature and Religion at Swarthmore College ('10, Phi Beta Kappa), where I trained in the Honors Program modeled on Oxford's tutorial system. With national magazine experience as a writer and editor (Tennis Magazine), I've spent a decade traveling the world studying meditation, emotional intelligence, and creativity-enhancing pedagogies.
Over the last 20 years, I've helped students access their latent creativity, ignite their imaginations, and tell their own stories in compelling ways -- whether in the college admissions process or in their own passion projects.
Past students have been admitted to: Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Swarthmore College, UPenn, Cornell, Brown, Emory (Woodruff Scholar), Duke, Vanderbilt (Cornelius Scholar), Johns Hopkins (Hodson Trust Scholarship), Rice (Trustee Distinguished Scholar), Washington University in St. Louis, Georgetown, United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, United States Military Academy at West Point, Georgia Institute of Technology, Carnegie Melon University, University of Georgia, and many other high-quality state schools.
They've also written poetry collections and novels, and won contests we revised together including: National Merit Scholarship, PTA Reflections Contest, National History Day, Scholastic Art and Writing Awards (Gold and Silver Keys), Columbus State University Carson McCullers Literary Awards.
Equipped as a professionally trained and experienced writing coach, I believe that deep listening, self-inquiry, and honesty are key, whether you're crafting one-of-a-kind personal essays for competitive top-30 admissions, or writing your own screenplay. I believe in creating an emotionally safe space and breaking down goals into achievable micro-steps to express your most compelling and authentic narratives.
I teach based in principles of gift economies, and am happy to share all the writing and storytelling tricks, techniques, and processes I've learned coaching more than 1,000 students over two decades.
