Hello, I am Katie. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance with an emphasis in education and math in 1998. I passed the Georgia Teacher's Exam and received a teaching certificate from the Georgia Board of Education. Since then, I have worked in public, private, and homeschool classrooms.
The public school system is where I started my teaching career. To begin with, I spent about four years as a substitute teacher. During that time, I worked in PreK-12th-grade classrooms in various subjects. Then I moved to the classroom, where I taught health and physical education at a middle school. After that period, I began working at a boarding school, where I taught health, physical education, and maths at the middle and high school levels. At the boarding school, I also tutored our students. During the tutoring sessions, I covered many subjects. I spent five years in this role. Once my children started school, I began substituting and teaching at the private PreK-12 school. I substituted in many different classrooms. I also taught an elementary advanced student class. For the last ten years, I have been homeschooling my children. I have taught all subjects and grades. My youngest is in kindergarten, and my oldest is in college.
As a result of the various settings in which I have taught, I have learned that I prefer the Charlotte Mason style of learning. This style emphasizes the individual and fosters a lifelong love of learning. I strive to build a relationship with my students so I can learn how to build a relationship between my students and learning. I strive to implement this teaching style at home and in my tutoring sessions.
