I have been tutoring students for more than five years and have worked with children across a variety of ages and learning styles focusing mostly on fundamental math skills. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Education, and my upper-level college studies focused on American Sign Language interpretation. My background includes coursework in teaching methods, learning and development, ASL, Deaf culture, and interpreting between English and ASL/PSE. I especially enjoy working with students in math and ASL, and I am comfortable helping with elementary math, prealgebra, Algebra 1, homework support, foundational skill-building, and beginner to intermediate ASL practice.

My approach to tutoring is patient, flexible, and focused on understanding rather than memorization. If a student is struggling with a concept, I try to identify exactly where the confusion started and explain it in a different way instead of simply repeating the same steps. I like breaking larger problems into smaller, manageable pieces and helping students understand why a process works so they can eventually complete similar problems on their own. I also want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes without feeling rushed or embarrassed.

One of the things I enjoy most about tutoring is seeing a student go from feeling frustrated or unsure to realizing that they actually can understand the material. My goal is to support students with the work in front of them while also helping them build stronger skills and more confidence for the future. Whether a student needs regular weekly support, help catching up in a difficult area, practice before a test, or someone to work through homework with them, I am happy to adapt sessions to their individual needs and goals.

Approved Subjects

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I have more than five years of tutoring experience and enjoy helping students work through multi-step math problems in a way that feels manageable. I can support students with equations, inequalities, graphing, functions, exponents, and other core Algebra 1 topics.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

My Bachelor of Science in Education gave me a strong foundation in how children learn and how instruction can be adapted for different students. I help younger learners develop skills in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, and word problems. I use simple explanations, visual examples, and repeated practice without making students feel rushed or discouraged. I especially enjoy helping children become more confident and less anxious about math.
Microsoft Excel

Microsoft Excel

I have years of experience using Excel and Google Sheets for bookkeeping, reporting, project management, data organization, small-business operations, and in my personal life. I regularly work with formulas such as VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, COUNTIFS, UNIQUE, IF statements, date formulas, and other tools for organizing and analyzing data. I also build custom spreadsheets, calculators, trackers, and reporting tools designed to make complicated information easier to use. My tutoring approach focuses on helping students understand how formulas work so they can troubleshoot and build spreadsheets confidently on their own.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

Prealgebra is often where small gaps in earlier math skills begin to create larger challenges, so I focus on strengthening the foundation first. I can help with fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, negative numbers, introductory equations, and graphing. I adjust the pace and explanation style based on the student’s needs and provide plenty of guided practice. My goal is to help students feel prepared for Algebra 1 instead of intimidated by it.
Sign Language

Sign Language

I hold a 4-year Bachelor of Science in Education, with my upper-level studies focused on American Sign Language and interpreting. My coursework included ASL I–IV, Deaf culture and education, PSE interpreting, and both simultaneous and consecutive interpretation between English and ASL/PSE. This training gave me a strong foundation in ASL vocabulary, grammar, receptive skills, expressive signing, and culturally appropriate communication. I can help beginner and intermediate students strengthen their signing skills, improve comprehension, and become more confident using ASL in conversation.
