Hi! My name is James, and I'm a third-year computer science student at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where I maintain a 3.50 GPA. My studies are focused on cybersecurity and systems & architecture, which has required me to become exposed to many technical concepts, but has also taught me how to study effectively and succeed across challenging curricula. Because of my academic background, I specialize in tutoring collegiate and advanced high-school topics. However, because I have valued education from a young age, I'm also well-versed in standard high school curricula and would enjoy gaining experience working with elementary and middle school students to help them build strong foundational skills, get ahead, and find confidence early on.
I draw on my hands-on experience as a peer tutor on the Knack platform, where I have accumulated around 38 hours of instruction within my first semester as a tutor. In this role, I've worked one-on-one with about 15 different students, assisting them with challenging coursework. As a tutor, I take a completely adaptable, student-centered approach and avoid one-size-fits-all explanations. Instead, I make an effort to listen closely to exactly where a student is getting stuck and adjust my teaching style to how they learn best, whether that means drawing visual diagrams, writing pseudocode, or breaking down a complex math concept into more intuitive, step-by-step pieces.
I truly enjoy watching the students I work with succeed, and that commitment has helped me maintain a 4.96-star rating across all of my previous tutoring sessions. For me, tutoring is about more than helping a student arrive at the correct answer; it's about helping them develop the confidence, problem-solving skills, and independent learning habits that will continue to benefit them long after a lesson ends. I am excited to bring my services to the Wyzant community, and I look forward to helping students achieve their goals!
