My love of middle school and high school-age students led me to a career in teaching. I taught in Trenton, New Jersey for four years. However, I have been associated with teaching or tutoring, in the classroom, for over 13 years. My favorite students to teach are those that have been dubbed as problem students due to adverse behavior issues. My philosophy is that students need respect, structure, fun and ease when learning. Furthermore, they respond best when they learn that respecting others is the first step to learning what it takes to be successful in life.
I am certified in Social Studies in the state of New Jersey. I have also been trained to teach grammar, reading, spelling, vocabulary and pre-algebra.
When teaching and tutoring, I have found that breaking the material down into easy-to-learn elements work best. I then walk with the student as we explore the material together, allowing the student to set the pace.
My most successful teaching and tutoring sessions come when working with two or more students. Although I am guiding them academically, they are teaching one another thus retaining the material at a new level while elevating their confidence.
Although I love teenagers, I enjoy teaching all ages of students, from elementary to adult.
Currently, I am in graduate school for professional counseling and am coaching adults in breaking through performance barriers.
