With a Bachelors degree in Psychology and two Masters (Education and School Counseling), I consider myself a lifelong learner. I have tutored students privately while employed for many years with great success. I believe that the foundation we build today directly impacts each student's future. I take my influence on their future seriously.
I strongly believe that the key to learning is empowering students to own their learning by providing them the proper tools/resources to do so. I have taught learners that arrive at different levels from below-grade level to beyond grade level academic performance. The goal regardless of a student's starting point is GROWTH.
From study skills...organization strategies...test prep...to unpacking grade level standards, I infuse a mix of creativity, concrete resources, and research based strategies that will change the way students independently show their learning.
I have taught in both elementary and middle school settings. I understand Georgia Standards and how each builds upon the previous year's instruction. Prior to becoming an Early Intervention Program teacher, I taught 5th grade students that often arrived reading below grade level. I led my students through the steps for developing a habit of reading and a love for Social Studies. I have consistently had my students show strong growth on schoolwide assessments and Georgia Milestones, too.
I have a Reading Endorsement on my teaching certificate. The endorsement required a year long study in best practices and strategies to strengthen my instruction related to Reading, Writing, and Vocabulary. Additionally, I am an avid reader and researcher of teaching best practices and spend a great deal of time constantly learning on my own.
I am AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) trained and help implement a program within my school based on AVID strategies for organization and note-taking. Many of the strategies taught in AVID are lifelong strategies that help support student success
