Hi, I'm Krista. I have taught a total of twelve years in the classroom and another three as a tutor for students ranging in age levels from preschool to college. I received my Bachelor’s degree in History and my Master's degree in Secondary Education in Broad Field Social Studies. During my History classes in college, I found that experiencing what we were learning brought material to life, turned content into memorable stories, and provided meaningful context for past and current events. History can be a challenging subject for many students for many reasons. I embrace the challenge of helping students find meaning in the subject, gain skills to help them study and learn history, and develop test taking strategies that will prepare them take tests confidently. In addition to the learning strategies and history content I gained during my Bachelor's studies, earning my Master's degree strengthened my understanding in other Social Studies subjects such as Government and Political Science, Economics, Sociology, Psychology, and Geography. This education also prepared me to teach classes filled with cultural and social diversity and to reach students with varied strengths and learning styles.
Other subjects with which I have successfully helped students are in the fields of Math and Language Arts. I have tutored students in Math from elementary grades through Algebra and Geometry. I have also helped students of all ages with reading, grammar, and writing, including working with students who were preparing for the SAT/ACT and who were writing essays for college applications and assignments. My students have experienced excellent increases in grades and scores and have reported having a greater understanding of the necessary content and skills.
