I recently received my Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Emory University under the guidance of Professor Simon Blakey. I have over seven years of combined research experience including three years as an Auburn University undergraduate research fellow and over four as a Ph.D. candidate. During these seven years, I have had experience tutoring students in General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry courses. I have personally taught students in Organic Chemistry Lecture, General Chemistry Lab, and Organic Chemistry Lab for 6 of those years.
My graduate research has focused on group(IX)Cp* catalyzed allylic C–H functionalization proceeding via a π-allyl intermediate. I have had the opportunity to study and develop novel C–O, C–N, and C–C bond forming protocols in this new class of reactions. During these investigations I have been able to develop novel synthetic organic chemistry methods, mentor undergraduate students, and perform mechanistic studies including kinetic analysis using gas chromatography. I have worked on projects solo, as a team lead, and collaboratively with local and international research groups. Through my involvement with the NSF-CCI Center for Selective C–H Functionalization I have also been able to verbally communicate these protocols with researchers all over the country.
I have been studying chemistry and organic chemistry for over ten years. I have an in-depth understanding of how these courses are generally performed and what works well to train students.
