Bio

I'm a graphic designer and educator in Atlanta. I've taught Adobe Creative Suite and Graphic Design to many wonderful students at Georgia State University and Atlanta College of Art since 1997—where I learned that the fastest path to learning an app is with a project. I'll show you the steps to finish your project, demonstrate each, let you try it, then follow up with a roadmap for how you can continue working on your project after our session or sessions, if necessary. I originally learned Adobe software at Atlanta's regional certified Apple Training Center. Therefore, my students become familiar with official Adobe terminology— an important communication tool in a school or workplace. I specialize in publication and print design using Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator with an emphasis on Typography. I genuinely enjoy teaching people and children of all ages, and we usually laugh a lot in my classes while we learn. I have a B.A. in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking, followed by a certificate in Commercial Art. In my design career, I've created publications in educational marketing for Colleges and Universities, for Corporate clients and for fun consumer brands. Do you want to get up and running in Indesign quickly? If so, please reach out and let's talk about how I can help you. I look forward to hearing about your learning goals!

Approved Subjects

Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator

I've used Adobe Illustrator since I was trained at the Apple Regional Training Center in Atlanta in 1993. I use proper terminology. And I know from teaching graphic design students for years that the fastest way to learn is with a project. If you show me what you'd like to create, then I'll get you there as fast as anyone can!
Adobe InDesign

Adobe InDesign

I've worked with book publishers, magazines, and entire programs of publications, creating multi page pieces that conform to publishing standards. I can create templates with style sheets for use by in-house departments. I not only know the software to create publications. I know proper formatting, and have a love of proper typography.
Adobe Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop

I've been working daily in Photoshop for print and screen since 1993. I was trained at Apple's Regional Training Center. And have worked with many printers since, so you know you are learning the proper methods of accomplishing each task.
Desktop Publishing

Desktop Publishing

I have over 20 years of desktop publishing experience, working for Book Publishers, Corporate Communications publications, and Educational Marketing Publications. I can train you in any aspect of desktop publishing: industry standard workflow; typographic standards for books; templates for magazines; production for brochures.
Graphic Design

Graphic Design

I've worked in Advertising Agencies in New York, Zurich and Atlanta. I've taught graphic design in the degree program and software at the college level. My classes can be tailored to your needs: quick overview sessions or a series of sessions. I begin your session with a project to complete. Each project teaches you skills in Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.

Extremely knowledgeable and patient.

Laura is an excellent tutor. She had thorough knowledge of typography and was able to teach it to my daughter. My daughter was extremely confident in the subject after her session with Laura. In addition, Laura was very patient, didn’t rush through the session and answered all of the questions my daughter had. Excellent tutor. We will be reaching out to her again!
