About Joseph

Bio

After graduating with a BA in English from the University of Dallas and a Master of Arts from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, I went on to teach classes of 7-12th grade students at Trivium Preparatory Academy in Arizona in English & Math and now work as a full time tutor for all sections of the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, & HSPT.

I love teaching English and Literature because I have a passion for storytelling, and I enjoy teaching Math and Grammar because of their rational nature and...

After graduating with a BA in English from the University of Dallas and a Master of Arts from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, I went on to teach classes of 7-12th grade students at Trivium Preparatory Academy in Arizona in English & Math and now work as a full time tutor for all sections of the SAT, ACT, SSAT, ISEE, & HSPT.

I love teaching English and Literature because I have a passion for storytelling, and I enjoy teaching Math and Grammar because of their rational nature and the enjoyment that comes from solving logic puzzles.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy going to the movies, spending time with my five younger brothers and sisters, and volunteering within MENSA. I believe that learning can always be made fun and is extremely rewarding when you put in the work. Worth Every Penny: Our Experience with Joseph

I have taken well over a hundred classes through Wyzant over the years, and this is the first review I have ever written. Joseph deserves it. I cannot say thank you enough to Joseph, and I feel incredibly lucky to have found him as my daughter's ACT tutor. He is worth every penny you spend. In February of this year, my daughter scored a 27 composite on her ACT. Our goal is a Service Academy appointment, and we knew she would need a much higher score to be competitive. A 34 was our target. Before switching to the ACT, we spent a long time preparing for the SAT. We hired multiple tutors, spent thousands of dollars, and some tutors charged more than twice Joseph's rate. Despite all of that effort, my daughter's SAT scores remained between 1200 and 1300. We eventually realized the ACT was a better fit for her. I interviewed many tutors and reviewed hundreds, if not thousands, of tutor profiles. We narrowed the list to several promising candidates and tried multiple tutors. Unfortunately, none of them could truly help my daughter break through. Her practice ACT scores stayed stuck between 27 and 29. My daughter is bright and ambitious, but she is not the type of student who can simply teach herself. She needs guidance, accountability, motivation, and a tutor she genuinely connects with. Then we found Joseph. He is efficient, direct, highly intelligent, and knows exactly how to identify the reasons behind a student's mistakes. He thinks quickly, but he is also patient. Instead of simply giving answers, he waits for my daughter to explain her thought process and helps her understand where she went wrong. He constantly provides alternative strategies, shortcuts, study tips, worksheets, and customized cheat sheets that help her solve problems faster and more accurately. After only one month of working with Joseph, my daughter's official ACT score increased from 27 to 31 in April. Like many teenagers today, my daughter can sometimes be distracted and unmotivated, even when she has important goals. What impressed me most is that she is always focused during Joseph's lessons. She often failed to complete assignments from previous tutors, but she has never missed Joseph's homework. She respects him because she recognizes that tutors like him are rare. Since mid-April, her regular practice test scores have consistently improved and now range between 32 and 35. A 34 no longer feels out of reach. As a parent, I feel much more relaxed and optimistic about her future. With Joseph's guidance, I truly believe my daughter can reach her target schools and achieve her goals. Highly Recommend!

Before my son started working with Joseph, he had a 1460 on the SAT. Once you get to this stage, it gets harder and harder to secure additional points. In fact, you have to re-learn material that you might not have learned properly the first time around. After spending eight weeks with Joseph my son improved his score. He decided to take it again and hit a 1550! We're so glad he didn't give up. Even though it took him two additional tries, the material he worked on with Joseph was clearly embedded in his mind. Sometimes it doesn't show up in the next test. We recommend Joseph without hesitation. Great balance of being supportive while also disciplined about assignments/homework. Particularly strong in identifying weak/opportunity areas. We are immensely grateful to Joseph.
