Hello,
I am an experienced English teacher, a published author, and a public speaker. Since my retirement, I've devoted myself to writing and to teaching online ESL—both independently and for a private company. In addition, I will read and fine tune your essays. Please note that I won't write your essays for you, but I will improve them.

In my ESL sessions, I use short videos, audio recordings, role playing to mimic real life situations, and current, interesting topics to keep the lessons dynamic and relevant. Each lesson includes speaking practice, vocabulary expansion, and reading comprehension in fun and interactive formats. Topics include Fake Images and Videos, Genetic Babies, Global Education Systems, How to Detect Lies, Prison Systems, The Search for Habitable Planets, etc.

I teach beginning to advanced teens and adults in General, Business, Medical, and Legal English (although I generally alternate Business, Legal, and Medical classes with General classes to ensure students learn a vocabulary that extends beyond their speciality.)

I encourage students to inform me of their approximate level and the type of English they want to learn when booking. (If they don't know their level, they can take a free online test at tracktest.eu.) Also, please book 1 day before our tutoring session, so I can construct an appropriate lesson! For Spanish students, I'm at the A2-B1 level. In-person sessions are held at my home in the NE quadrant of Atlanta, within the perimeter.

ACHIEVEMENTS: I have a Masters in Teaching English from the University of Iowa, a Masters in Theology from Meadville Lombard Theological School, certification in TESOL, certification in proofreading, have attained the top 1% in the GRE English section, and have maintained a 3.98 gpa throughout college and a 3.99 gpa in both of my graduate schools. In addition, I've published short stories and articles, and have won several poetry awards—one of them national.

ESL/ESOL

I am a retired language arts teacher and currently tutor ESL independently and for a private company. Over the years, I have observed that tutors who rely on written exercises short-change their students, for the lessons are neither productive nor interesting. For that reason, I incorporate short videos and audio recordings, role playing to mimic real life situations, and readings as well as discussions on current topics to keep the lessons relevant. Each lesson also contains speaking practice, vocabulary expansion, and reading comprehension in fun and interactive formats.
Writing

Writing

I went into Language Arts because of my love of reading and writing. Throughout the years, my skills in these areas have increased due to practice with many types of writing--not just essays, not just short stories, not just editorials, etc. Each of these types has its own charm and requirements, and learning the particular skills for one type not only adds a notch to your belt, but also, in a holistic way, improves your skill in all the others. In other words, just as good writing enhances your entire school or work experience, good writing in a particular subset enhances all of your writing--for the skills necessary for one type are just as pertinent for all others.

Great Tutor

She showed up 25 min before our schedule time frame very pleasant and knowledgeable about the subject matter . I like the fact that she read the course material and written up a ruff draft for me to use as a guide to help identify and understand what was called for . I would definitely recommend and use Ryan services again.
