As an undergraduate at Smith College, I majored in Psychology, minored in Philosophy, and took many courses is English Literature. These are all subjects at which I excel, and served as a starting point for my expertise in areas of literary analysis, critical thinking and writing. Later, I earned a Masters of Arts in Education, specializing in School Counseling, and was certified as a school counselor for Kindergarten through 12th grade for many years. I spent 21 years as a school counselor at the secondary level, in both private and public schools.

My Master's thesis, "Motivation and Learning: From Theory to Practice," included a detailed plan for a High School Transition Program, which I later implemented and ran for 10 years. This included a Study Skills Course that I taught myself, including topics such as reading strategies such as SQ3R, note-taking strategies, writing techniques, test-taking strategies, mnemonics, metacognitive skills, organization, time management, self-assessment and self-advocacy. I also developed an after school tutoring program. In addition to training peer tutors, I tutored students myself, 4 days a week for 10 school years.

My post graduate professional development has included attending seminars on brain development, ADHD instruction, and workshops held by the College Board and American College Testing. Because of my work as a counselor, I am knowledgeable about a variety of learning styles, and with school plans such as Individualized Education Plans. I also understand the college admission process, and regularly read scholarly articles in this field.

During my 21 years working in schools, I taught Health classes for more than 10 years, co-taught English 9, and taught Independent Study courses in Pre-Algebra, British Literature and Philosophy. I held workshops for students on SAT preparation and writing a college admissions essay. Finally, I taught a variety of seminars for Masters' level students in Education.

I have a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I also earned a Masters of Arts in Education, specializing in School Counseling, and was certified as a school counselor for Kindergarten through 12th grade for many years. During my Master’s program, my coursework included the study of Attention Deficit Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. As a school counselor, I read educational evaluations for hundreds of students and routinely wrote 504 Plans for students with ADD and ADHD. I am very familiar with the kind of accommodations needed for these students to be successful, and served as an advocate for students who needed support in order to be academically successful. As a private educational consultant, I worked with high school and college students with ADD/ADHD, and adults as well. I consult with a school psychologist who has referred students to me to help them with their academic functioning due to ADD/ADHD. I recently attended a conference with Dr. Edward Hallowell, who is a leading ADD/ADHD expert, and I receive his monthly newsletters with cutting edge research. I continue to read books on the subject as well.

By far one of the best coaches I've ever had

Linda is patient, kind, and very knowledgeable in the field of helping students succeed. I have never felt misunderstood or patronized by her. She takes time to ensure I am comfortable with my working process and provides suggestions for how to improve in areas I need help, while also being open to my feedback. She is very giving and supportive. I would 100% recommend her to anyone looking for a tutor or executive functioning coach.

Amazing

My 10 year old daughter loved Linda! Her patience and kindness made learning parts of speech and vocabulary such a smooth process. Unfortunately, my daughter was diagnosed with a learning disability that required a specific learning program. Otherwise, we would have stayed with Linda longer. Linda updated me daily on their tutoring sessions and she never hesitated to address any of my questions or concerns. We will definitely keep Linda in mind if we need help in the future. Can’t thank her enough.

Amazing SAT tutor

Linda has been working with my daughter to prep for the SAT. In addition to their online sessions, she provides work for her to complete during the week. Every pre-test she has done, her scores have increased. One month ago she was so nervous about taking the SAT. This Saturday is the day and she is feeling more confident than ever thanks to Linda. Thank you Linda!

Amazing tutor!

My son was a "D minus" student after sophomore year of high school. He had a dream of serving his country as a U.S. Marine. Successfully completing two more years of standard education was daunting, so he decided to acquire his GED at age 17 and before starting his junior year of high school. Linda grabbed hold of this dream and developed a positive reinforcement strategy to keep his dream in front of every learning obstacle. Utilizing her training as a motivational speaker she made every mistake he made into an opportunity. She focused on test taking strategies and made him take sample tests in every format. To the amazement of everyone except Linda and my son he passed all four exams without failure in four consecutive weeks. Linda said he always had it in him - it just took someone to reach in and grab it! She believes this is possible for everyone. There are no words to express our gratitude, or to compliment her skill, that I can use beyond this: Today my son in is in the midst of basic training and looking forward to a career in aviation electronics in the Marine Corps. This he owes to his amazing tutor, Linda B.
