About Benjamin

Bio

I have taught and tutored at college level courses to deaf and hard of hearing students in Engineering for 9+ years. I've also taught college level courses to hearing students in Computer and Electrical Engineering Technology for a year. I have taught High School Math and Science to deaf and hard of hearing students. Communication should not be a problem whether you are deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing because Wyzant has a chat feature if the audio verbal isn't helping.

I am an one on one type of tutor and I can help you learn lessons by guiding you in your homework showing how to do them step by step. I can answer any questions that you may have when you are confused with the topics you are trying to understand.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1

I took Algebra in middle school and I earned straight A's in every assignment and exam. I was always approached by other students for help with Algebra. As an undergraduate at RIT, I helped other students who were taking Algebra. I still help my current high school students in Algebra when they ask me.
Algebra 2

Algebra 2

I have always been good with Algebra. I'm always able to tutor many students in the subject of Algebra at the college level, at the high school level, and to my kids. I'm very good with one on one tutoring when it comes to this subject, for any student...deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing.
Computer Programming

Computer Programming

I have a BS in Electrical Engineering Technology and a MS in Professional Studies with Concentrations in Engineering and Deaf Education. The undergraduate degree required that I pass many programming classes including Java, C, C++, Objective C, Assembly Language, and more. I have taught a programming course called Programming Concepts at NTID for many years and I have tutored many students in their computer programing classes.
Electrical Engineering

Electrical Engineering

Took both undergraduate Electrical Engineering and Electrical Engineering Technology classes. Taught some electrical engineering classes such as Circuit Analyst, AC and DC Circuits, etc as a college professor for 10+ years.
Elementary Math

Elementary Math

As of last summer at Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, I was the teacher for high school students. There were about 11 students ranging from grades 10 to 12, but their math and reading level were much lower at as low as 1st grade and up to about 4th grade. I spent the majority of my time teaching those students basic math such as multiplying with decimals and fractions, division with decimals, simple arithmetic, etc.
Elementary Science

Elementary Science

I am currently a High School Science Teacher at Pennsylvania School for the Deaf. I teach Biology, Chemistry, Health Science, Physics, and Applied Science. All of the science classes I teach are adapted because the students have reading, writing, and math levels at around the 1st to 4th grade but with some 10th to 12th grade level concepts in Physics.
Hard of Hearing

Hard of Hearing

I am both deaf and hard of hearing. I am deaf because I cannot hear without a hearing aid. But I can hear some sounds and speak effectively when I have my hearing aids on. I am also a teacher at a school for the deaf in Pennsylvania. I have taught at a college that had many deaf and hard of hearing students.
Logic

Logic

As an electrical engineering student I took digital systems and then later tutored other students in that class. Then I became a college teacher and taught digital systems. Taught for 10+ years.
Poker

Poker

I've been playing Poker for over 15 years. I've participated in some Casino tournaments in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Baltimore, Philadelphia and other cities. I have played home poker tournaments on a weekly basis for many years. Lately, I've resorted to online playing but I still go to public tournaments when I can.
Prealgebra

Prealgebra

I taught a PreAlgebra course at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf back in 2012. I have also had to tutor other students who were not in my class on the same subject. I still tutor some of my current high school students in PreAlgebra when they couldn't see their Math teacher.
Sign Language

Sign Language

I have been deaf since I was 4 years old. I have taught at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology for 9 plus years. I have also taught at Pennsylvania School for the deaf for almost 5 years.
