Excellent tutor

Amie is an excellent tutor with a vast knowledge in the subjects of math and science. She is patient and easy to work with, I highly recommend her. This is an update to my last review. I have come a long way regarding my math skills and it's all because of Amie's excellent tutoring skills. In the last couple months I have gone from, at best a pre algebra level student to being proficient with graduate level Physics equations and maintaining an A in the class.

Great SAT teaching

My son really gets a lot from Amie’s teaching to help him be prepared for this test. Amie is very nice and attentive and explains things very well. She goes thru each problem with him and makes sure he understands it.

Huge difference in a short period of time.

We hired Amie for a last minute attempt to raise our son's SAT scores. We only had a week and hired Amie for 5 sessions (not the best plan to enact a change, should have spread it out over weeks). Amie was very flexible and worked well with our son. We had asked Amie to work on both reading and math. While the reading score did not change, his math score shot up from 630 to 730, a huge difference. Our son felt Amie was very easy to work with, provided teaching he could easily understand and followed a good plan of action. Would certainly recommend her. Thanks Amie!

Excellent, Very nice, Punctual

Amie – Wonderful! She tutored my son in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry as well as preparing him for SAT/ ACT. She is highly knowledgeable, patient, professional and always punctual. It did not take long for my son to raise his grade. Best of all he quickly started being comfortable with the subject. Amie will help the student not only understand the subject but also enjoy it. She is passionate with the subjects she teaches and is able to share it with the student. Our son now feels confident enough to continue on his own. Amie made that happen. I truly will miss Amie! she not only is excellent at tutoring but also a wonderful and caring person. I highly recommend her. Thank you so much for everything Amie

Quick, Helpful, and Invaluable

Amie is right on it. She is professional, kind, and has an amazing knowledge of the subject she is tutoring on. She is extremely helpful in condensing the material into more manageable segments. I have waited to take calculus until the absolute last credits and have been dreading this course although now with her tutoring and support, I know I will be successful in completing calculus this semester.

Knowledgeable and enthusiastic

Amie has tutored my two children in math on a weekly basis since September 2013. She is extremely knowledgeable, and helps them resolve questions on their homework, reviews test materials with them, and prepares sample problems for them to practice on. She is eager to help and always wants to know how they performed on tests. She is patient and encouraging. She has also been able to help them in chemistry and general science when they've had questions in those areas. I've been very pleased with Amie - she is punctual, pleasant, and professional, and I believe she has helped my children develop a deeper understanding of the math concepts they are learning and how to put them into practice.

Amazing!

What can I say to describe Amie but "Amazing"! My daughter's confidence level has risen since tutoring began and it is all due to Amie's patience, knowledge, and demeanor. Thanks to her tutoring, my daughter is no longer afraid to ask questions. Keep up the good work.

Intelligent, however...

There's no question when working with her that she will be the smartest person in the room. But, I did find her disposition and methods of pedagogy wanting. If you do not already love the subject material and/or don't get it the first time, she is not the most understanding or empathetic. A great tutor should be able to get on the student's level and teach the material in a way they understand - this includes pacing, adapting personalities, and techniques for remembering the subject. In summation, she's highly bright and qualified but does not connect with you or your learning style to ideally teach the subject matter.

The emphasis of this review is on my ability to mesh with this individual. The review fails to mention that we met on very short notice (the student required tutoring for a final exam on a Monday, and I was contacted on the Friday before). I met with the student for a total of three hours and traveled for more than 40 minutes each way to do so because he expressed dire need and preference for my help. I went out of my way to lower my rate for the student, and after my tutoring he received a B on the exam and passed the course. Since our two lessons he has contacted me for aid in other classes. Some of the material in his course required formulas and could not be taught with alternative methods (ie, interest formulas utilizing date tables). Although we may not have connected on an personal level, I feel proud of the service I provided to this student as I was able to help him in a professional capacity.
