I have been a statistics and mathematics tutor for over fifteen years. I have tutored middle school, high school, college undergraduate, and college graduate students in geometry, algebra, trigonometry, pre-calculus, calculus, probability and statistics, Microsoft Excel, and ACT/SAT/GRE/GMAT Math Prep.
My relevant job experiences include teaching statistics and probability courses at the college level at Purdue University for two years, where I received a Graduate Student Teaching Certificate. I have also been a part-time substitute teacher for 6 years, for grades K-12, in Indiana and Illinois.
I have worked as statistician for several companies, and I am currently employed as a statistician in Atlanta. I live between Midtown and Buckhead in the Piedmont Heights/Lindbergh area. I have been a statistics and mathematics tutor for over fifteen years. My relevant job experiences
David has been available on short notice and connects with my daughter more easily than previous "math brains" we have tried. We like him very much; he focuses on the topic we are concerned with and seeks feedback from my daughter to be sure she is understanding him.
In my opinion David has a unique quality. It is frequently VERY difficult for kids who are gifted in language, music, and arts, to relate at any level with the math and science types. Their brains work differently, they think and learn differently. The teacher/tutor has to be able to accommodate teaching methods to things these kids relate to. David just does that for us.
David has helped our daughter prepare to retake the SAT to improve her math score. We were only able to meet a few times but I think his help will be valuable as he reviewed the strategies she needs. Communication by text made it easy to coordinate the tutor sessions at the library.
We sought David's assistance with test preparation for the ACT & SAT math sections. David delivered on all the "must haves":
-was very responsive to my initial Wyzant request/post. Very timely replies
-was flexible to work with us on schedule and location to ensure my daughter's needs were accommodated
-delivered on guidance for strategies unique to the ACT & SAT formats
-was very knowledgeable in all the disciplines of mathematics
-was respectful of our schedule and obligations and reliable. He recognizes that just as much as tutors don't like same day cancellations, neither do students/customers
A definite recommend from us!
Has taught my daughter now for a couple of sessions. She is gaining greater knowledge of her Algebra 1 freshman class and things are starting to make more sense to her.
We used David for two of my kids. He is a great tutor and I highly recommend him. David knows his subject and he knows how to work with kids.
My daughter felt that David was very patient and understanding in going over the math. She has more of a confidence going into her test this week with David's help. David continues to be a excellent tutor for my daughter. He is knowledgeable, dependable and consistent.
David is literally the most intelligent math mind I have worked with. Any question I presented him with he was able to work though.
As a PT tutor you need to be willing to work with him over the weekends but that worked great for my schedule. He is very patient and able to explain things in a variety of ways if you are having trouble.
SAVE YOUR MONEY ON KAPLAN. Buy the official GMAT guide, do every problem, and review the ones you miss on your own and with David. You can't go wrong. I took the Advanced Kaplan course and was hitting in the 600 range. After two months of hard work with David and another WyzAnt tutor I was able to boost my final score to a 710. Work hard and call David!
David was a great tutor that helped my son a great deal. My son said he explained things very well for him to understand. He arrived early at our location and would recommend him to future clients.
David really helped my daughter. In one session he got her caught up on a topic she had trouble mastering. He was patient and understanding.
Thanks to David's excellent subject knowledge and teaching skills, I was able to pass my College Algebra class, which I previously did not understand at all. David helped me go from not understanding anything in the class, to having Algebra make perfect sense!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Many students struggle with probability because it requires the basic analytical skills of memorizing and applying the use of several formulas, as well as the a mathematical maturity forcing students to understand interesting and sometimes confusing problems in the fields of statistics, mathematics, and business.
I have been studying probability since 2003. I have taken several courses on the subject both in my undergraduate and graduate studies at Purdue University. I have also passed the first actuarial exam which has probability as its primary content matter. Beyond taking courses in probability, I have tutored probability since 2004. I have also taught probability courses to undergraduates for two semesters at Purdue.
In these courses we covered set theory, discrete distributions (including Bernoulli, Binomial, Poisson, Negative Binomial, Hypergeometric, and Geometric), and continuous distributions (including Uniform, Gaussian (or Normal), Gamma, and Exponential).
SAS is one of the most popular statistical software programs used both commercially and in academia. Understanding SAS programming will tremendously help any student learning statistics or data management.
I have been using SAS for over five years. I have used SAS in several courses, projects, and work assignments. I have already tutored several statistics courses that have had a heavy focus on the use of SAS, both in programming and more importantly, in interpreting SAS output. I currently use SAS on a daily basis in my job as a financial statistical consultant.
I have used many of the popular statistical procedures such as Proc Freq, Proc Means, Proc Univariate, Proc GLM, and Proc Logistic. I also have experience reading in data sets of various formats. Finally, I am experienced with data management programming syntax and logic, such as if statements and variable transformations, and I am somewhat familiar with macros.
